Fiji : Until next time...

As our departure date sadly loomed we were happily joined by our compadre Sophie, who put the sparkle back in to our eyes with her funny wit and humour. We all had a grand time together cooking up some tasty grub - home made curries with Roti and Tempura Eggplant ( a surprisingly successful experiment!)

A big girls-day-out had been in the pipeline for some time now and we decided to try our hand at spear fishing, the rustic kind using metal spears and a rubber band, yet again surprisingly good at it. We were able to catch an octupus which we affectionately named Bob after we'd turned its head inside out to kill it and release the ink. Bob is in the deep freeze awaiting Marie's culinary skills.

We paid a visit to the capital city of Suva to visit the rather famous museum here and learn more about Fijian culture. A little side project to this trip was to visit the department of health and enquire about nursing within Fiji, before the day was done we had a copy of the application form in our hand and Susie was beaming.

A girly night in turned in to a boys and girls night out on the porch as Rita brought over her partner Irava and his friends Soko and William. Countless servings of cava were mixed up and slurped from coconut bowls. William wooed us with his incredible voice and guitar playing skills.

By the end of the evening we were all singing along and playing childhood games of truth or dare and Irish snap which led to the boys performing the Huka and the girls doing cartwheels and handstands down the drive.

After one too many RedBulls Susie decided it would be a good idea to go for a late night swim so we all put on our swimming gear and hailed a cab to take us down to the beach where we splashed around in the warm kneehigh water under the starry sky.

Our last evening in Fiji was spent watching films, eating pizza and moaning about our iminent departure. The early morning start of 6am saw tears and farewell hugs to Sophie, Marie and Wilson. A running joke 'when life give you lemons, buy some shit' came in to play as Susie bought a Fijian rugby shirt sporting the number 7 on the back and we chowed down on chocolate muffins and coffee at the airport.

We were New Zealand bound and due to arrive at our next destination before lunch...

Peace and Love,

Jan and Sooz.
